Our CSR Strategy
At FCMB, we understand the significance of being a responsible corporate citizen and giving back to the communities where we operate. It is a vital part of our overall strategy to improve the living conditions of these communities. Our ultimate goal is to make significant social and economic impacts on our beneficiaries with structured and sustainable giving.
Our social agenda primarily focuses on Poverty Alleviation, Economic Empowerment, and Environmental Sustainability, in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). To achieve this, we regularly conduct need-gap analyses in our host communities. This helps us to accurately identify the areas where our support is most needed.
We are committed to adding value to all our stakeholders in the spirit of “My Bank and I”.
Key Focal Areas:
Our CSR agenda is focused on Poverty Alleviation, Empowerment and Environmental Sustainability. Outside of these, FCMB supports a limited number of charitable projects.
Poverty Alleviation
Leveraging our high-performance culture and sense of responsibility, we support alleviating and eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, including its attendant effects.
Economic Empowerment
To harness the country’s great potential, FCMB is helping to create an enabling environment for economic empowerment through micro-entrepreneurship, microcredit, and skills acquisition.
Environmental Sustainability
We believe that what we give to the earth is what we receive from it. Therefore, we must take practical steps towards environmental sustainability. To achieve this goal, we collaborated with relevant authorities like NESREA and UNGC to ensure our businesses operate sustainably.
Education
To develop the necessary workforce and take advantage of emerging opportunities for growth, quality education is essential. FCMB supports this goal through sponsorship programs and school projects that empower young people to reach their full potential and discover their identities.
Health
At FCMB, we take pride in being an institution made up of world-class professionals who are committed to a culture of excellence.; who strive to provide solutions that cater to the diverse aspirations and needs of the people we serve by partnering with healthcare NGOs and hospitals.
Projects and Donations
In line with its commitment to continually empower and impact lives in all segments of the society. FCMB renovated a male hostel in Federal Nigeria Society for the Blind (FNSB) at its Vocational Training Centre (VTC) located at Oshodi, Lagos.
CONCLUSION
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set forth by the United Nations are a worldwide call to action for all stakeholders to collaborate and tackle some of the biggest obstacles to sustainable development. As the significance of business' role in this effort becomes more apparent, the SDGs have grown in importance as a tool for evaluating a company's impact on society more comprehensively.
At FCMB, we take pride in being a responsible corporate citizen and a leader with a duty to have a continuous, positive impact on the world around us. Our CSR pillars help us concentrate on the well-being of our stakeholders and the conservation of resources.
Priceless Gift of Sight
Since 2009, FCMB has partnered with Tulsi Chanrai Foundation (TCF), a Nigerian-Indian not-for-profit organization, to alleviate the plight of disadvantaged Nigerians who would otherwise have lived with blindness and inherent poverty. Hope has been restored to thousands of Nigerians with eye-related issues by helping them regain the Priceless Gift of Sight and supporting them to overcome challenges with their vision.
The primary goal of the “Priceless Gift of Sight” initiative is to reduce avoidable blindness, mainly cataracts, in rural areas of Nigeria. This is achieved by providing free, high-quality surgeries and raising public awareness about eye-related issues in the country. Through this program, FCMB has positively impacted the lives of thousands of people, especially those in remote areas across the country’s six geo-political zones, in places like Adamawa, Imo, Ogun, Kebbi, Cross River, Niger, Kaduna, Kogi, and the FCT.
Over the past thirteen years, more than 300,000 people have benefited from the world-class ophthalmology care provided for free. This includes over 20,000 eye surgery interventions, including Cataract, Pterygium excision surgeries with grafts, primary eye-testing and provision of eyeglasses.
Donation of Limb in partnership with the Ishk Tolaram Foundation:
Amputation is a significant problem that has robbed amputees of their happiness and livelihood, often causing them to lose their jobs. We teamed up with the Ishk Tolarram Foundation (limb centre) in 2018 to donate 50 artificial prosthetic limbs to physically challenged individuals in Enugu state. We, as a bank, hope that providing these prosthetic arms will help them recover their mobility and reintegrate into society.
END FUND and MITOSATH Partnership with Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation:
We partnered with END Fund and The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation by making an equity contribution towards eradicating non-tropical diseases from the endemic-remote areas of the country.
Youth Empowerment Foundation (E4F)

Thus far, it has empowered more than 300 young individuals.
Digital Art Library
At FCMB, we believe that providing Nigerian girls with digital skills is essential for their success and participation in the modern economy. The goal is to train and mentor beneficiaries and guide them to create a sustainable ecosystem for global opportunities. It also focuses on meeting the SDGs goals to reduce poverty, and gender balance/inclusion in the tech space, hence fostering technological advancement in the educational sector

FCMB Partner with MitiMeth
We partnered with Mitimeth to address the issue of water hyacinths, with a focus on promoting environmental sustainability and reducing poverty. This partnership began in 2015 and is an annual initiative that empowers communities to view water waste as an opportunity for wealth creation rather than a hindrance to water transportation and fishing. A two-week boot camp was organized for 20 female leaders from riverine communities in Lagos, Ogun, Kogi, and Ibadan to achieve this goal. During the boot camp, the women received arts and crafts training, enabling them to convert waterway wastes into valuable products. These women will then share their knowledge with approximately 500,000 members of their communities, helping them to generate income from the resources in their environment.
